Barneys New York hosted a dinner Thursday night to celebrate Proenza Schouler's foray into handbags (the first style to hit shelves is cleverly called PS 1).

Of course, where designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez go, a tribe of cooler-than-thou chicks follow. And so Mary-Kate Olsen, Melissa Bent, Chloe Sevigny, Vanessa Traina, Amy Greenspon and Julia Restoin Roitfeld packed into Il Buco for an Italian feast.

While guests ordered tequila and slipped outside for smokes, McCollough admitted that he and Hernandez tapped into the psyche of their stylish girlfriends to create their latest accessory. "We definitely pick their brains," McCollough said. After all, he doesn't know much about what works in a purse. As he said, "I carry a Jansport."
